2011 Recipient: Sierra Brown
The recipient of the 2011-2012 Diversity Scholarship for an incoming student is Sierra Brown. Ms. Brown will be 2nd year doctoral student at Duquesne University. Since beginning her doctoral studies in 2010, Ms. Brown has served as a research associate at the UPMC Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic.
As an undergraduate, Ms. Brown became interested in academic achievement and the risk factors related to high school drop out for at-risk youth. This interest has translated into her research focus at Duquesne University.
Ms. Brown will be presenting two posters at the APA Convention in Washington, DC, serving on her program's SASP board in the upcoming school year, and hopes to work as a researcher and professor dedicated to promoting academic success for minority students.
