Division student members are encouraged to participate in APAGS events at convention

By Alexa Lopez

With the 2012 Annual APA Convention fast approaching, it is quite easy for graduate students to feel overwhelmed with the large diversity of programs available in such a short amount of time. The convention website has a user-friendly search of all programming available, and we have already received the Division 28-sponsored list of programming to start planning out our few days in Orlando, Fla.

However, many students may be wondering what is available specifically for their interests. Graduate students with a student affiliate membership in APA are automatically enrolled as members of APAGS. APAGS represents approximately one-third of all APA members, making us the largest organized group within APA. Therefore, many events and symposiums during the convention that consist of a student component will likely be sponsored or co-sponsored by APAGS.

APAGS is also hosting their annual graduate student social (guests welcome.) Thursday, August 2 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the dueling piano bar Howl at the Moon. Join us for an exciting night of singing and networking! Be sure to stop by the APAGS Booth in the convention center to obtain your required, free ticket to this memorable event!

Other engaging programs that will be held in the APAGS’ Suite can be found on the website.  Some of these programs include Teaching Tips for Graduate Students, Alternative Career Paths, Introduction to Multilevel Modeling, Learning the Language of Interdisciplinary Science and Practice, and How Do You Become Involved in Leadership and Advocacy: Insights from Current Student Leaders. APAGS is aware of the needs of science-oriented graduate student and continues its efforts to advocate for psychological science as a whole through the Executive Committee as well as through the Science Committee, as reflected by the diverse research, practice, and interdisciplinary programming that APAGS is sponsoring or co-sponsoring.

Be sure to stop by the APAGS Booth in the Convention Center at any time if you have questions or want to get in contact with the APAGS Science Committee. We look forward to seeing you at what will surely be another exciting convention.
