Statements from Div. 28 Council Representative Candidates
Sarah Heil Council Representative Statement
By Sarah Heil, PhD
I am currently an Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Psychology at the University of Vermont (UVM). I earned my Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from Dartmouth College in 1997, then completed NIH postdoctoral fellowships in fetal alcohol syndrome research at Wayne State University and human behavioral pharmacology at UVM. I joined the faculty at UVM in 2002. Funded by NIDA, my research interests include the behavioral and pharmacological processes involved in substance use disorders, with a special focus on pregnant and recently postpartum women and their infants. I have nearly 100 publications and mentor undergraduates, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. A Div. 28 member since 2006, I have presented at seven annual meetings, including organizing and/or participating in symposia at three of those meetings. I also served on the Program Committee for three years. I was elected a fellow of the division in 2011 and would be honored to represent the division on the APA Council of Representatives.
