2017 APA Convention Update
Presidential initiative: 2017 APA Convention Div. 28 programming
By Kelly Dunn, PhD
Please join us at APA's annual convention, being held from Thursday, Aug. 3-Sunday, Aug. 6, 2017. Your division members are participating in several exciting collaborative sessions with other divisions, spanning discussions about HIV/AIDS-related science and practice, the use of positive reinforcement for behavior change, issues related to comorbid pain and disability and methods to harness the therapeutic potential of abuse drugs such as cannabis and psilocybin. The program integrates preclinical and clinical research and hosts a special session regarding methods to maintain scientific integrity, which is important for the complex world of psychopharmacology that intersects often with pharmaceuticals and other businesses. Our student and early career psychologist (ECP) members will be presenting in several forums this year, including the annual Early Career Poster Session and Social Hour that is co-hosted with Div. 50 (Addiction), that National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
We are also excited to debut an addiction and behavioral science data blitz this year. Hosted in conjunction with Div. 50, student/ECP researchers will have two slides and two minutes to present their data. Come cheer them on as they fight the clock, and then walk with them to the immediately-following Divs. 28 and 50 poster session for more in-depth conversations. Finally, be prepared for some stellar talks from our award winners, newly elected fellows and presidential address. Overall, Div. 28 has arranged an exciting and diverse array of topics and presentation formats for you, and we are certain they will captivate your interests and inspire your research. We look forward to seeing you at convention.
