Section III Programming at the APA Convention

Section III will have outstanding programming at the APA convention. On Friday, August 5 at 9 a. m., we will have a symposium about the diverse perspectives of mentoring Latinas. We anticipate an interesting conversation with Drs. Lillian Comas-Díaz, Miguel Gallardo, and Bernadette H. Solórzano about their experiences mentoring and supervising Latinas. In previous years, we have been inspired by the energy our membership brings to dialogues, so be prepared for great conversation. After the symposium, we have scheduled a networking hour with our Section III membership at 11 a. m. in the Division 35/AWP Suite. If you are interested in becoming a member of Section III, please join us!

Later that day, Section III will be collaborating with the other sections of Division 35, and we will have a Roundtable at 3 p.m. about how Gender- and Race-related trauma is manifested in our communities. This surely will be an enlightening conversation.

We will end the day with a celebration. Our 2011-2012 Student Scholar Latina/Hispanic Woman Award will be announced and presented to a very deserving graduate student. The purpose of this award is to honor the scholarly contributions of a student member who has conducted research and/or scholarly work that advances the psychology of Latina/Hispanic women. Please join us in congratulating our Latina scholar.

It has been a productive year, and we look forward to involving our membership in the growth of the section. Areas of continued importance are the mentorship of Latinas at different phases of their careers, and the advancement of feminist approaches to research and clinical practice with Latinas of diverse backgrounds.
