Awards Committee

The Awards Committee designates an individual each year to receive the Scholarship and research award and another to receive the Leadership Award.

The Scholarship and Research Award is given to a person who has made significant contributions in advancing psychoanalytic psychology in the areas of theory, practice, and/or research. The award recognizes both research and scholarship, with the understanding that many nominees have made contributions in both areas. We want to emphasize the empirical basis for psychoanalytic psychology and its role in advancing scientific knowledge, as well as recognize psychoanalytic psychology as part of the wider social sciences and humanities. Honorees are expected to prepare a lecture that will be given as part of the award ceremonies during the Spring Meeting.

The Leadership Award is granted to an individual who has made important contributions to the advancement of psychoanalytic psychology as a discipline and practice. Initially called the Service Award, in 2002 the award was renamed to highlight the importance of those members who contribute through their efforts to develop and implement initiatives and innovations in more effectively serving our membership as well as the wider psychoanalytic and psychological community.

From time to time, the Committee also honors members with a Founders Award to highlight those members who have made enduring contributions to psychoanalytic psychology. Each year’s honorees are recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of our Spring Meeting.

How To Apply

Nominees are solicited from the board members and former honorees, evaluated by the Awards Committee and presented to the Division Board of Directors, which makes the final determination of recipients. Please direct any questions to Usha Tummala-Narra, the current chair of this committee.
