Clinical Sports Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship
The University of Southern California (USC) Student Counseling Services is pleased to announce a postdoctoral psychology internship open for August 2014. The position is specifically to provide services to the university's student athletes.
The postdoctoral fellowship is the result of a joint collaboration between the USC Student Counseling Services and the academic wing within the athletic department. One half of the responsibilities are within Student Athlete Academic Services where the postdoc will work with student athletes with learning challenges as a learning specialist. The duties include assessing educational strengths and weakness, providing individualized educational assistance for students who are academically at risk and facilitating students' development as self-regulated learners. The other half of the responsibilities are within the Student Counseling Services providing individual psychotherapy, crisis intervention, performance enhancement and groups for USC student athletes. The postdoc will work under the supervision of two California licensed psychologists: one with a specialty in learning challenges and the other with a specialty in clinical sport psychology. Both have extensive experience working with student athletes at a National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I university with 22 teams and approximately 650 student athletes.
Applicants must have a doctorate in counseling or clinical psychology from an APA-accredited program and have preferably completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship. They must also demonstrate an interest in working with athletes with learning disabilities. Experience in working with individuals from diverse backgrounds is essential. Experience as a college athlete would be helpful but is not necessary. Organizational skills, follow through and ability to work independently in a responsible manner are all essential to this position. A good understanding of boundaries and professional ethics is a must. Completion of dissertation strongly recommended prior to commencement of position.
USC is an urban private research university located near downtown Los Angeles. USC has a population of 33,000 students, which includes undergraduate, graduate and professional degree students. USC is one of the top academic institutions in the United States with one of the most accomplished athletic departments in the country. The university has one of the largest international student populations in the United States.
The position is 12 months, full time. Salary is currently budgeted at approximately $32,800 and includes health benefits, sick time, paid vacation, professional days and $650 dollar stipend for professional development.
