Statements from Div. 28 Presidential Candidates

Stacey Sigmon Presidential Statement

By Stacey C. Sigmon

Stacey Sigmon, PhDI am honored to be a candidate for Div. 28 President. I have a longstanding commitment to psychopharmacology and substance abuse research, beginning in 1992 with nonhuman research at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and later clinical research at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Vermont. I am also dedicated to mentoring early career scientists, as well to my clinical role as Director of Vermont's first and largest methadone clinic. I joined the Div. 18 long years ago as a first-year graduate student and, since that time, have participated regularly in our annual convention. I have served as Div. 28 Program Chair and Member-at-Large and on our Program, Awards and Executive Committees. I also have been extremely honored to receive our division's Poster Award, Wyeth Young Psychopharmacologist Award and to be elected Fellow.

As President, I will give my full attention to strengthening our division's membership and fiscal foundations, as well as our convention programming and attendance. I will work closely with our division's members and Executive Committee to sustain the excellent prior efforts to recruit and support Early Career Psychologists. Finally, in this time of continued tough funding, I will strive to further expand the visibility of our division and our members' science with NIH and other important agencies. In closing, I would be honored to dedicate my efforts to continuing our division's tradition of excellence in training, research and dissemination.
