Over the past year, Division 37 has continued its commitment to support publication of Advances in Child and Family Policy and Practice. Advances is a now a publication in the Springer Briefs in Psychology Series. During the summer, Lisa Gennetian completed her term as the series editor, and Tom McMahon became the new editor.
With approval from the Executive Committee and the Advances editorial board, the statement of purpose for the publication has been revised, and the editorial board has been expanded to include designated representatives from the Section on Child Maltreatment and the DREAM SIG. As development of the series continues, Advances will remain a forum for the scholarly review of psychological knowledge relevant to social issues, public policy, and service delivery that affect children, youth, and their families. Each issue will continue to examine a social, policy, service delivery, family, or developmental issue relevant to the well-being of children and youth. Future issues will also focus on professional, legal, and ethical issues that affect the delivery of social, educational, and health services to children, youth, and families.
An issue of Advances may be a comprehensive review of a theme written by a single author or group of authors, or it may be an integrated set of papers that explore different dimensions of a theme organized by a guest editor or editors. During 2021, Julie Poehlmann-Tynan and Danielle Dallaire edited a volume on mothers in the correctional system; Barbara Fiese and Anna Johnson edited one on food insecurity. John Ackerman and Lisa Horowitz are finalizing a forthcoming issue on suicide prevention and intervention. Members of the division can use their APA login to access all nine issues for free through the publications tab on the divisional website. Anyone interested in working with the editor to develop an issue on a contemporary issue of potential interest to the division can contact Tom McMahon.
