Membership Types and Dues
To qualify for the status of member, an individual shall be a member of APA and shall have an interest in the scientific advancement and/or professional practice of group psychotherapy. A member shall be entitled to attend and to participate in the meetings of the division and to receive its publications. A member shall also be entitled to hold office, to serve on committees of the division and to vote in elections.

A member nominated for fellow status in the division must meet the minimum standards for fellow status established under the APA bylaws. Fellows must have been a member of the division for at least one year and have made an outstanding and documented contribution to the science, teaching and/or research of group psychology and/or the practice of group psychotherapy. Fellows must also be endorsed by three APA fellows, including two fellows within the division, when deemed feasible by the present Committee on Fellows. A two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Committee on Fellows shall be required to constitute a recommendation to the board. To qualify for the status of associate, an individual shall be an associate member of APA and shall have an interest in the scientific advancement of group psychology and/or the professional practice of group psychotherapy. Associate members of the division who are voting associates of APA shall be entitled to attend and participate in meetings of the division and shall receive its publications; associate members who are voting members of APA shall also be entitled to hold office, to serve on committees of the division and to vote in its elections.

To qualify as an affiliate of the division, an individual shall have an interest in the scientific advancement of group psychology and/or the professional practice of group psychotherapy. An affiliate member need not be a member of APA. Affiliates shall be entitled to attend and participate in meetings of the division and shall be eligible to receive its publications. They shall not be entitled to hold office. An affiliate member shall be entitled to vote in elections but cannot be a voting committee member.
Dues: $35.50
To qualify as a student affiliate of the division, an individual shall be enrolled full-time or part-time in a graduate program or school of recognized standing in psychology. Student affiliates shall be entitled to attend and participate in meetings of the division and receive its publications. They are entitled to hold office as elected student representative to the board and in that position, serve as a voting member of the board. Student affiliates are also entitled to serve on committees of the division and to vote in its elections. Div. 49 offers a Life Status/Dues Exempt membership category. For more information about this membership category or to become a Life Status/Dues Exempt member, please contact the Div. 49 leadership. Individuals in this membership category are still asked to contribute a publication fee to support the division’s publications, which are received as part of membership within the division.

Access the latest research and news in group psychology and group psychotherapy through the division’s journal, Group Dynamics: Theory, Research and Practice and its newsletter. Members are also encouraged to volunteer to write for and edit the division publications.
