Sport, Exercise, & Performance Paper of the Year Award

This award recognizes outstanding research published in the division’s official publication, Sport, Exercise, & Performance Psychology (SEPP).

Deadline:

Sponsor: Division 47

Description

The SEPP editor and the past president are responsible for notifying the Sport, Exercise, & Performance Psychology (SEPP) Paper of the Year Award winner of their recognition. Notification to the awardee is typically made in January of the convention year. This timeline allows the awardee to, whenever possible, make plans to attend that year’s APA Annual Convention (typically held in August).

The award recipient does not need to be a member of Division 47 to be eligible for this award. The first author of the Paper of the Year Award will receive the following from Division 47:

  • Early-bird convention registration
  • A $250 honorarium
  • Award memorabilia
  • The Paper of the Year Award article is made freely available for one year as part of the “sample papers” for the journal
Eligibility

All papers accepted for submission to Sport, Exercise, & Performance Psychology in the previous calendar year of when the award is given are eligible for this award. Papers published in different years or in other journals are not eligible.

How to Apply

There is no formal application for this award. All papers accepted for submission to Sport, Exercise, & Performance Psychology in the year preceding the convention in which the award is given are eligible for this award.

SEPP papers are evaluated by the associate editors of SEPP and three members of the Division 47 Executive Committee based on innovation, methodological rigor, data analysis, significance of the issue, quality of the writing, and overall contribution to the literature.

When a conflict of interest exists (e.g., an associate editor is a co-author on a paper being considered), the individual with the conflict should recuse themselves.
