Since the 2017 APA Convention in Washington, D.C., the student representatives of Div. 47 have been working to further develop our training webinar series, in an effort to meet the professional development needs and interests of society professional and student members. We have also focused on continuing to engage members and the broader public through our social media pages.
We have expanded our webinar series from one training webinar per year to now offer three per year. Our third webinar in 2017 focused on performance psychology with non-athlete populations: “Optimal Performance: Convergent Theories and Divergent Practices in Performance Psychology” featuring Charlie Brown, PhD; Gloria Park, PhD; Sari Shepphird, PhD; and moderated by Kate F. Hays.
Our first webinar of 2018, aligned with Div. 47 President Courtney Albinson’s presidential initiative on diversity, inclusion and social justice, focused on LGBTQ+ issues in sport: “Beyond Allyship: LGBTQ+ Inclusive Sport Psychology Practice” featuring Vikki Krane, PhD; Heather Barber, PhD; and Lani Lawrence, PhD.
As Div. 47 student reps, we have also helped with two new additions to the Div. 47 website. We have added a link to a page where all past webinars are now archived. We have also helped to develop Div. 47 ’s new page focused on diversity, inclusion and social justice in sport. This page includes resources on athlete activism, as well as statements from graduate students and ECPs on why a focus on diversity, inclusion, and social justice is important to the work of sport, exercise, and performance psychology professionals
We want to encourage students and all members to attend the upcoming 2018 APA Convention in San Francisco, from August 9-12. We will be hosting a student-oriented speed mentoring session and social hour, in addition to a full schedule of exciting Div. 47 programming in the form of symposia, skill-building sessions, round tables and posters.
