The Society for Sport, Exercise and Performance Psychology (SSEPP) is looking forward to welcoming you to Chicago, Aug. 8-11 for the 127th Annual Convention of the American Psychological Association! First, the dynamic SSEPP program of posters, symposia, discussions, skill-building workshops, and conversation hour proposals would not have been possible without the help of our 66 abstract reviewers. Thank you for your assistance in helping to create this innovative and informative program slate.
Current SSEPP president, Bradley Hack, PhD, identified the below presidential themes for his year in leadership:
- Adolescent athletes — using sport psychology interventions with teens and parents for on- and off-the-field well-being, development, and healthy striving
- Best practices for coaches — advances in communication, leadership, and enhancing the athlete’s experience
- The latest in performance enhancement strategies
We are excited to see SSEPP presentations and posters that highlight the above themes!
In anticipation of convention in August, we also wish to draw your attention to particular highlights of the SSEPP program so that you can begin to plan for attending these exciting divisional offerings:
- Brian Hainline, MD, chief medical officer of the NCAA, will be the featured speaker for the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Exchange Lecture.
- Lani Lawrence, PsyD, clinical and sport psychologist at the University of Southern California, has been selected to deliver the Steven R. Heyman Lecture, a keynote presentation focused on diversity and inclusion in sport, exercise and performance psychology.
- Recognition for the Distinguished Contributions to Science and Research Award, the Early Career Professional Award, the Dissertation Award, the Master’s Thesis Award, and the SEPP Paper of the Year will be awarded during Bradley Hack’s presidential address.
We hope to share the official SSEPP program schedule with the Div. 47 membership in the coming months.
Lastly, below are some additional highlights that SSEPP members will surely want to add to their convention calendars:
- The division is proud to offer fourteen total hours of continuing education within the SSEPP programming.
- For the first time ever in division history we will be offering two poster sessions due to the growing number of excellent poster submissions.
- A speed mentoring session for both graduate students and early career professionals (ECP) to help facilitate connections with established professionals in the field of sport, exercise and performance psychology.
- The 41st annual Ray’s Race 5k Run/Walk taking place on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 11.
- A SSEPP social that will take place the evening of Friday, Aug. 10 at Kroll’s South Loop and will feature an open bar and free food to division members and prospective members.
Don’t forget that convention registration officially opens on April 15 for early bird pricing. Rates will increase on May 16 for advanced rates and then again for regular rates beginning July 1.
We look forward to seeing everyone in the Windy City in August!
