This year, the Special Interest Groups (SIGs) initiative will be led by Dr. Nicole DePasquale (Member-at-Large, Duke University School of Medicine) and the following members of the Early Career Task Force: Dr. Allyson Graf (Northern Kentucky University), Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Munoz (The University of Texas at Austin), Dr. Jamie Peven (University of Pittsburgh), Dr. Aishwarya (Ash) Rajesh (Washington University School of Medicine), Hannah Apostolou (The University of Alabama), and Shayne S.-H. Lin (The University of Alabama).
In September, the SIGs initiative will launch its third and final recruitment effort of the year for leaders and members. Later that month, all current SIG leaders will be asked to submit their annual proposal forms.
In addition to our ongoing efforts, many SIGS have been busy launching their own initiatives and achieving milestones. Here are some recent highlights:
Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience SIG
Will be hosting a monthly Zoom talk series and offer opportunities for collaboration among members. Recently published a fall newsletter that includes a member spotlight and monthly schedule (please contact this SIG for a copy).
End of Life SIG
Had a fun and well-attended end-of-life related symposium at the latest APA convention. Looking for a D20 member to take on a leadership position specifically for social media.
Gender, Sexuality and Aging SIG
This SIG recently welcomed a new co-chair, Gabriel Medianero Araúz, to join the returning co-chair, Rita Rivera. Welcome, Gabriel!
Research Methods SIG
Will host an “Invited Speaker Series: Research on Adult Development and Aging,” largely geared toward graduate students. The latest deadline to apply for a speaker position is November 15.
If you would like to learn more about the SIG initiative, please contact Nicole DePasquale, PhD. If you are interested in any of the opportunities mentioned here, please visit the dedicated D20 SIG webpage to contact the appropriate leadership team.
