As we continue to build community across our “gero” world, I wanted to take this chance to introduce myself to Division 20 and talk a little about the Society for Clinical Geropsychology (SCG). I am the current president of SCG, a native Montanan and farm girl, an avid college basketball fan (Go Zags!), and one of the current (and outgoing) Council Representatives for Division 20. I have served in many public interest spaces within and outside APA, and one of my main areas of interest is supporting professional development pathways. My work spans clinical research, health services, training, clinical work, and advocacy.
Many of you already know the Society of Clinical Geropsychology, though some of you may not. We are a fellow APA group, a section housed within the Division of Clinical Psychology (12), and our work also focuses on the well-being of older adults, specifically psychological treatment for older adults. Many of us are practicing clinicians and/or conduct clinical research or teach in clinical psychology doctoral and master’s programs. Our student members are one of my favorite parts of the job as president, and they keep me energized to do things differently and better. If you have not attended it, our student social at the Gerontological Society of America conference is not to be missed!
I will be at the APA Annual Convention this year, and I would like to invite all students from Division 20, SCG, or elsewhere to reach out to me before the convention to find a time to meet up. If you are coming to the convention and want to meet, email me, and I will find a time and place.
Looking forward to getting to know more of you!
