Video games are a continuously growing area for entertainment consumption, and so the design and research of these games is also growing in scope and importance. Therefore, the theme for the programming at this year’s APA convention is focused on gaming. We have seven excellent panels covering topics from toxic game environments to decision-making in consumer products. Three panels will explore using gamification to enhance education, investigate the interaction of gaming and aging and cover usability testing and how it differs from traditional usability testing. The panel on Saturday will examine virtual environments, robots and personal relationships.
Finally, there is also a panel on Friday on research and applications in esports, a rapidly growing segment of the video game domain. This panel will lead directly into the division business meeting, followed by our division dinner. Other highlights of the program (PDF, 171KB)opens in new window include the presentation of the Briggs Dissertation Award and the Franklin V. Taylor Awards on Thursday, and our poster session on Saturday, featuring nine posters. It looks to be an exciting program, and I hope you can join us in Chicagoopens in new window.
