General Program Information
As it was last year, the APA 2021 convention is going to be a fully virtual experience once again.
While many of us are looking forward to hybrid or in-person events, the online format does offer advantages including saving travel costs, allowing more participation by people who might be unable to travel, and creating the opportunity to save recordings, handouts, and other resources and share them more broadly. This ties in beautifully with our Div. 5 theme: raising awareness about one of psychology’s oldest traditions and distinctive strengths, and using our skills and methods to address key societal issues. Our presentations include examples of how technology is changing what we can assess and how we measure it, and also how we can use technology and social media to better share and support the implementation of evidence-based practices. Presentations show how qualitative and quantitative methods can inform our understanding of psychological responses to the pandemic and social isolation, as well as enriching our perspectives on social diversity and how to have more inclusive research and practices.
Div. 5 presidential and invited addresses, symposia, and posters will be pre-recorded and uploaded to the APA 2021 virtual platform. We are encouraging speakers who want to share materials to add a Creative Commons (e.g., CC BY 4.0 Guillermo Perez Algorta, PhD) license to the video, slides, or handouts, and we plan to make them available outside of convention on the D5 web site. This will extend the time and the reach of the presentations, while also helping share the ideas with a broader audience.
For this year, to help in the preparation for APA 2021, APA has developed a collection of short videos and easy-to-follow guides to help create, upload, and promote your session or poster presentations. You can access these materials through the “Presenter Hub.”
Registration, and the APA 2021 program book, will be available on the APA 2021 convention website. The APA Convention Office has released the following information about participation and costs:
