Welcome to San Francisco. This year we have an exciting lineup of invited talks, symposia and posters that represent a variety of areas of research, and professional development and outreach activities promoted by members of Div. 21.
Congratulations to our award winners. Jing Chen (Brigg’s Dissertation Award) will present her work on task framing effects. Walter Boot (Alluisi Early Career Award) will provide an overview of his research on designs to promote safety and well-being of older adults. Mary Hegarty (Nickerson Best Paper Award from the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied) has an exciting talk on the effects of uncertainty on location judgments.
The presidential address by Robert Proctor will highlight the contributions of applied experimental and engineering psychology in the information age. And this year, we have two Div. 21 presidential invited talks by APA fellows. Peter Hancock talk on the evaluation of practical utility of consciousness, and Alice Healy will highlight her research on training principles.
Don’t forget to join Anne McLaughlin and Chris Wickens for a conversation hour on models of attention and task-switching and what rock climbing can tell us about attention and expertise.
On Friday morning, we will start with the Div. 21 poster session. Come meet and interact with the presenters and then head over to the symposium chaired by Gabriella Hancock on “Places you could go” to learn about jobs for candidates with applied psychology degrees.
The Div. 21 program ends with an exciting symposium title, “From Lab Managers to APA Division Presidents: Women Leaders Connecting People with Technology.”
