We at the APA Annual Convention Planning Committee have been excitedly exploring and envisioning STPP programming for APA’s 2022 annual convention, set to take place in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on August 4–7. As President Joshua Clegg has articulated for the division, our planning has converged around the theme of epistemic access. It is our hope that the STPP APA program features creative and collaborative events that aim to make epistemic access real, to not only feature essential critiques of ongoing injustices and the ways access has been arbitrated in the psy-disciplines, but to instantiate epistemic access within our discussions, workshops, and presentations. Members are encouraged to consider the role of theory and philosophy in providing critical critique, troubling gatekeeping practices and concepts in the field, and unbarring epistemic access. In our planning so far, we have discussed including a workshop series that honors the theme of epistemic access, such as by centering the role of lived experience and by including opportunities for collaboration that may result in deliverable initiatives to be taken up during the APA convention and beyond.
We have sent out a call for proposals with more details about the diverse types of submissions and themes invited. Your attendance and participation are highly encouraged. At this time, details about the nature of APA’s 2022 convention (i.e., hybrid or online) are pending; we will send updates on the listserv, including details about proposal submission deadlines, when the APA Convention Office releases these details.
There will be three ways to participate:
- The call for proposals for division programming will go out in early November. Proposals for symposia, skill-building sessions, discussion sessions or posters are to be submitted using the APA portal. Please consider submitting a Collaborative or Continuing Education Program proposal; we are happy to help you navigate the process.
- As in recent years, the APA system does not accept individual paper proposals; instead, these are submitted directly to the program chairs. Paper proposals will be reviewed and those that are accepted will be grouped into symposia.
- As with previous APA conventions, a concurrent stream of programming will be offered in the Div. 24 hospitality suite. Proposals for the 2022 STPP Summer Meeting programming are submitted directly to the program chairs.
