Mission
To support the development of theoretically-informed approaches to clinical practice in psychology. Reflective practice and careful theorizing are cornerstones of the Society. The Division 24 Clinical Special Interest Group (SIG) will challenge and advance the clinical field by clarifying and improving the theory, assumptions, and values at play in the history, present, and future of psychological practice. The Clinical SIG will facilitate a network where members: Collaborate on scholarship; seek and share research and educational news and opportunities; develop outreach/media projects; and facilitate rigorous discussions and symposia. We will encourage and facilitate the Society's influence on APA policy, such as Clinical and Professional Practice Guidelines and ethics policy, by organizing impactful communication from theoretical and philosophical psychologists to the American Psychological Association and the broader public.
Objectives
- The Clinical SIG will regularly inform Division 24 members of news at the intersection of clinical practice and theoretical and philosophical psychology in research, education, and scholarship.
- We will facilitate and inform the Society when there are opportunities to influence APA policy and interface with the public.
- Clinical SIG meetings will be held at the annual APA convention and the STPP conference.
- We will identify opportunities to financially and logistically support efforts such as events, conference presentations, Clinical SIG 24 dialogues, and other forms of collective scholarship and outreach.
- We will identify and pursue opportunities to recruit psychologists-in-training as members of Division 24, including outreach to training programs and planning co-sponsored events to be accessible to students.
Communication
At this time, announcements will be sent via Division 24 Listserv from either co-chair. Co-chairs will collaborate with the Division 24 EC and communications to promote relevant events and SIG initiatives through the listserv, the Society Bulletin, and social media forums (LinkedIN, Facebook, IG, etc.) We will also explore further communications and outreach opportunities. Examples might include a Clinical SIG YouTube channel hosting talks or interviews from member groups, a podcast series, etc.
