As the liaison to Div. 31 from the Committee on Early Career Psychologists (CECP), I would like to address early career psychologists in SPTAs across the nation. You may have heard about the recent reorganization that took place within the American Psychological Association (APA). This reorganization dissolves the Office on Early Career Psychologists/APAGS and is reorganizing the CECP under a new Center for Psychology under BEA. This also involved layoffs of Eddy Ameen and Lucia Gutierrez, which has created voiced concern from many of you, as they were instrumental in developing the Committee on Early Career Psychology to its current form. This reorganization does include being assigned two other staff who will be supporting CECP in its reorganization. However, since we have dealt with quite a few emails from many of you expressing concern, we want to let you know we want to hear from more of you, as you are the early career psychologists we are so proud to represent.
We want to hear your thoughts, concerns, and questions about the recent reorganization. As representatives of all early career psychologists, the CECP wants you to know that we have been and will continue to work on your behalf, so that your voices and interests are heard. CECP is actively addressing the APA Board of Directors around these concerns. We are also working with the American Psychological Association graduate students, as these changes directly impacted their committee, in much the same way as CECP. Your thoughts and ideas around this situation are welcomed and of help to CECP, as we work with APA leadership to address these events and influence policy change. We also welcome any other ideas or thoughts about things you would like CECP to be addressing at this time given all of the events happening in our nation. Please email your feed back.
