Practice Leadership Conference (PLC) 2021 was a huge success! Like all gatherings in the age of COVID, PLC was completely virtual this year. It was a new experience, but I personally found that bringing advocacy literally into my living room made it hit home harder (pun intended).
This year’s advocacy work focused on using psychological science to engage across the aisle. Advocates educated legislators around expanding access to telehealth/audio-only services for the provision of mental health care for Medicare patients as well as funding for key psychology workforce programs such as the Graduate Psychology Education (GPE) program and the Minority Fellowship Program.
The previous weekend, attendees were educated on health equity in the field of psychology as well as the distinctiveness of the doctoral degree. Early Career Psychologists celebrated together via a breakfast networking Zoom. In this call, we focused on discussing challenges of being an ECP leader in state, provincial, and territory associations. While we very much missed seeing one another in person, we were still able to join our communities to do the great work of PLC!
