The Award for Outstanding Professional Contribution to Diversity in Group Psychology or Group Psychotherapy 

This award honors psychologists who have made significant contributions to group psychology practice, research, service and/or mentoring with themes central to the promotion of cultural diversity, social justice and equity through group psychology or group psychotherapy. Currently, the award deadline is TBD 2022.

Description

The Award for Outstanding Professional Contribution to Diversity in Group Psychology or Group Psychotherapy started in 2012 and is awarded every other year on even numbered years. This award honors psychologists who have made significant contributions to group psychology practice, research, service and/or mentoring with themes central to the promotion of cultural diversity, social justice and equity through group psychology or group psychotherapy. A plaque will be presented to the award winner at the annual APA convention.

Eligibility

All who are members of Div. 49 or whose application for membership is currently pending are eligible.

How to Apply

This award will be given in 2022, with a submission deadline TBD.

Nomination materials should be consolidated into one document and emailed to Diversity Committee Chair Eric C. Chen. Nomination materials include and are limited to the following:

  • Names, phone numbers, program and institutional affiliations, APA divisional membership of yourself (the endorser) and of your nominee. 
  • A brief letter highlighting your nominee’s contributions in promoting understanding and respect for diversity in group psychology practice, research, service, advocacy or mentoring.
  • The nominee's vita.

All materials should be submitted via a zipped/compressed folder in one email with the following subject line and zipped file title: CANDIDATE’S FIRST AND LAST NAME – APPLICATION FOR DIVERSITY AWARD (e.g.,  MARGARET WISE BROWN – APPLICATION FOR DIVERSITY AWARD and MARGARET WISE BROWN – APPLICATION FOR DIVERSITY AWARD.zip, respectively).
