Since the last update, the Bisexual Issues Committee has had a successful set of APA convention programming and begun planning programs for the 2020 convention, opened submissions for our annual awards and started a new Bi+ in Psychology Spotlight in recognition of Bisexual Visibility Day.
At the 2019 APA convention, the Bisexual Issues Committee held two well-attended symposium sessions and a conversation hour facilitated by the student representatives. Our new programming chair, Jasper Privat, has organized a symposium on Bi+ relationships with an emphasis on clinical applications for the 2020 APA convention. We hope to see you there.
We are currently open for submissions for the two Bisexual Issues Committee awards. The Bisexual Foundation Award offers $1,000 for graduate research related to the psychology of bisexuality and the Student Travel Award provides $500 to defray travel expenses for graduate students engaged with LGBTQ psychology to attend the APA convention. Applications for both awards are due March 30.
In September, the committee celebrated Bisexual Visibility Day with a new edition of the News Beyond the Binary and a new initiative, the Bi+ in Psychology Spotlight. The spotlight features the contributions of bi+ psychologists, and our first feature was former Committee Co-chair Christopher Davids, PhD. Thank you to Colleen Kase for your excellent work on this initiative. We look forward to continuing to recognize the contributions of Bi+ psychologists and those advancing bisexual psychology throughout the year.
