The Science Committee works to promote psychological scholarship focused on sexual orientation and gender diversity, as well as to support psychologists and graduate students who are involved in such scholarship.
Current activities of the committee include:
- Development, distribution, and analysis of a survey of members of Div. 44 to assess their views regarding best practices in conducting and publishing research with sexual and gender minority populations.
- Writing a manuscript guided by the aforementioned survey results with the goal of providing scholars (particularly early career psychologists and graduate students) with concrete guidance for successfully conducting and publishing sexual and gender minority research.
- Submission of a proposal for a panel to be conducted at the 2021 annual meeting of the American Psychological Association focused on best practices and challenges in conducting and publishing sexual and gender minority research.
- Advertisement of the Malyon-Smith Student Research Award and review of applications.
- Ongoing discussions within the committee about how to best promote anti-racism in sexual and gender minority-focused research and support research focused on Black, Indigenous, and People of Color populations.
If you would like to join the Science Committee, please contact the committee co-chairs, Brandon Velez and Stephanie Budge. Graduate students and early career psychologists are particularly encouraged to participate.
