Eric C. Chen, PhD
Eric Chen received his PhD in counseling psychology from Arizona State University. He is an associate professor in the Graduate School of Education at Fordham University. His focus is on cultural influences on the group counseling experience, and the needs of underrepresented groups, particularly LGBTQ individuals and undocumented immigrants. He has a particular interest in development of multicultural competence among therapists, and is a leading voice in translation of research on multicultural issues into practice. To this end, he served on APA’s Task Force on Revisioning the Multicultural Guidelines for the 21st Century. He has made theoretical, empirical and practical contributions to the field’s understanding of diversity issues in group therapy, and is truly one of the discipline’s leaders in advancing the importance of a multicultural perspective in group work.
