From: APA 2018, Div. 32, Humanistic Psychology Symposium: Creativity, Chaos, and Nonlinear Psychology in Mind and Life
There is a pervasive nonlinearity in the structure of our universe. We see it not only in the chaos of clouds and the movement of water, but it is also fundamental to our thinking, our behavior, our creativity and defines the nonlinear path of our self-evolution. Understanding these patterns of chaos allows us to accept accidents and mistakes as bifurcations to new paths and trajectories to previously unrealized courses of action. We are immersed in a world of nonlinear fractal patterns that reveal deeper meanings about our mind. These repeating fractal patterns emerge in processes such as recognition, memory, creativity, schemas and in the unconscious repetition of habits. Nonlinear models are clinically relevant to working with trauma, eliminating self-destructive behavior and help us to choose our inner wholeness over unreachable perfection.
Then imperfection with all its surprises and room for creativity becomes our own perfection and the perfection of our world.
