This presentation reviewed literature pairing qualitative outcomes with physiologic measures (heart rate, blood pressure, cortisol, dopamine and others) that reliably predict mood, cognitive, behavioral and functional MCBF outcomes in music listeners and participants. Prescription iPods precision target physiology (based on individual demographics) throughout the circadian day (including sleep cycles) to intervene during MCBF dysfunction and facilitate best-case goals using individualized music programming (via both active and receptive music) to decisively rehabituate and escort patients towards longitudinal, transformative outcomes. The Prescription iPod (PiP) was awarded the 2014 “Best Practice Award” from the Johns Hopkins' Delta Omega Honor Society. The PiP model applies to most psychopathologies and behavioral issues and also applies to pain management, social bonding, aphasia and many other applications. A beginning discussion of the foundational components of music to target and influence patient physiology (sympathetic vs. parasympathetic; cognitive focus vs. active behavior, ADD vs. PTSD, etc.) included specific examples and applications that were presented and fielded during this CE symposium.
