Dear International Students:
As an international psychology graduate or undergraduate student attending APA's convention in Chicago as a first author/presenter, we invite you to participate in a peer mentoring program. Div. 37 (Society for Child and Family Policy and Practice) — in collaboration with other APA divisions, committees and offices — hopes that you can honor this invitation.
What is involved?
You will be paired with a graduate student or early career psychologist who lives in the United States and has at least one year of experience attending APA Convention. Their mentoring expertise is in navigating convention and in being hospitable. They will be required to:
- Have email contact with you prior to convention (helping you plan to make the most of your experience at the convention).
- Meet at least once individually with you during convention.
- Attend a one-hour orientation session for international student with you at convention.
The session will be held in the International Psychology (Div. 52) hospitality suite at convention on Thursday, Aug 8, 2019, time TBD. All program participants will also have the opportunity to attend and be recognized at the international reception, sponsored by the APA Office of International Affairs and the Committee on International Relations in Psychology.
Program goals
We put this program together to help you have a guide and introduction to convention; to learn ways to get the best out of convention; and to increase interest in psychological research, training and practice collaboration across borders.
How to participate
If you are interested in participating, please respond to a brief survey by July 8, 2019. We’ll follow up after the due date with information on peer mentor match/pairing of participants.
Thank you in advance for your participation.
