SCFPP is among the sponsors of a National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine Forum on Promoting Children’s Wellbeing. I have been representing Division 37 on this forum. The forum will be hosting a virtual workshop series October 18-20, “Building Resilience in the Face of Emerging Threats to Child and Youth Well-Being.” Among the threats to be addressed will be racism, exposure to violence, and climate change. I have had the pleasure of serving on the planning committee. More information and links to registration can be found onlineopens in new window.
The forum held a virtual workshop series in May 2022, “Responding to the Current Youth Mental Health Crisis and Preventing the Next One.” A highlight of the workshop was a discussion with the U.S. Surgeon General regarding “Shifting Towards Promotion and Prevention in Mental Health.” The video for this presentation can be found onlineopens in new window.
Reports on other workshops that have been published recently can be found onlineopens in new window.
The forum is actively planning the spring workshop now. The forum continues to host a Collaborative on Healthy Parenting in Primary Careopens in new window and a Collaborative on Vital Signs for the Health and Wellbeing of Children and Familiesopens in new window, both of which are quite active and include members of our division. The forum also hosts working groups on lived experience, which is now a key element of all workshops, and on communication of forum work to a broad audience.
