The Couple and Family Psychology Specialty Council

The Couple and Family Psychology Specialty Council is the representative organization for the specialty of family psychology. The Couple and Family Psychology Specialty Council represents the following constituent organizations and interests: the APA Div. 43 (Society for Couple and Family Psychology); the American Board of Couple and Family Psychology (ABCFP), which is a specialty board of the American Board of Professional Psychology; the Academy of Couple and Family Psychology, which comprises all diplomats of the ABCFP; and representatives from doctoral, internship and postdoctoral programs.

  • The Couple and Family Psychology Specialty Council is responsible for the following functions:
  • Facilitating communication and developing coherence and consistency of policies and procedures within family psychology.
  • Promoting quality assurance of education, training, credentialing and practice in family psychology.
  • Representing the specialty of family psychology to the Committee of Accreditation and the Council of Specialties in Professional Psychology (Family Psychology Specialty Council Bylaws, 2005).
