Our division has organized a new working group to address the issues surrounding healthcare for transgender, gender diverse, and nonbinary children and adolescents.
The new Working Group on Healthcare of Transgender and Nonbinary Children and Adolescents has representatives from our division, but also involves representatives from Division 37 (Child/Family Policy and Practice), Division 53 (Clinical Child/Adolescent Psychology), and Division 54 (Pediatric Psychology). We may get more representation from other divisions in the future.
This working group is in response to several challenges in this area, both internal to our profession, and external to APA – especially the onslaught of political actions targeting trans youth that have increased in intensity in the past several months.
A working group is a tool for addressing a problem or challenge that extends beyond any one committee's scope or purview. The topic of healthcare for transgender/NB youth is one such topic.
