The division now has a new look on YouTube. In addition to modernizing the design and features of our YouTube Channel, we have been adding exciting content. Our Diversity Committee presentations now include three events hosted by Eric Chen, as well as Cheri Marmarosh interviewing Michele Ribeiro on her book, Examining Social Identities and Diversity Issues in Group Therapy. These events offer group specific education on social justice issues and are widely accessible. We hope you will view them and share with your colleagues.
Div. 49 also continues to work closely with the Group Specialty Council to ensure that APA recognizes Group Psychology and Group Psychotherapy as a specialty. It is important that training programs that offer specialty training recognize themselves as such and publicize these training opportunities. In line with that initiative, our YouTube channel now features a series related to group as a specialty. This series of videos describes model training programs at varies levels of training (doctoral program, internship, postdoctoral fellowship) in a variety of common settings (counseling psychology programs, clinical psychology programs, college counseling centers, and hospitals). In addition, we offer information about group as a specialty and address common misconceptions. We also are featuring a video of training directors from 20 internship programs and three postdoctoral fellowship programs who describe the group psychotherapy training their sites offer. We hope you will enjoy the series that features presentations from Div. 49’s fellows. Currently we are featuring our collection of Fellows talks by Mary Alvord, Eric Chen, Bob Conyne, Lee Gillis, David Marcus, and Georgio Tasca. If you are a fellow and you would like to contribute a talk, please let us know!
We will be continuing to expand our YouTube channel offerings. A series on support groups is on the horizon. In alignment with a major initiative of the division, we are currently pursuing approval from APA to offer CEs. Once that happens, we’ll be able to offer opportunities to earn CEs for the content of our channel. In the meantime, we hope you will help promote our channel. As they say, “Be sure to hit the subscribe button!”
